The new hotel development rising at the corner simultaneously creates a high point and new entrance for the Kraftwerk Bille Ensemble. Here, the courtyard opens up to the street, creating an indoor-outdoor space that faces the hotel lobby.
On the upper floors, the new building takes up the design rhythm and height of the historic facades of the neighboring buildings. It is intended to provide a 78-room hotel or serviced apartment in the still underdeveloped east of the city, complementing the proposed cultural and commercial uses of the Kraftwerk Bille Ensemble. The goal was to develop an efficient floor plan design that would allow for maximum space utilization within the planning parameters. Furthermore, shielding the inner courtyard and the ground floor zone from the street space due to the increased noise pollution was an important design criteria. This resulted in an architectural façade concept, which provides for the design of a base zone of deep cast in concrete arches, following the historical arches of the neighboring buildings.
The upper floors have a deep gridded and efficient steel and zinc façade that rises above the massive base. The rhythm of the facade continues in a modified and sloped form in the roof extension of the neighboring historic building.
